Douglas Strauss v. United States of America

In a more recent decision, Douglas Strauss v. United States of America, Mr. Lopez represented National Steel & Shipbuilding Company, the workers’ compensation provider for the injured worker. In this matter, the worker, Doug Strauss, brought a negligence action against the USA, based on an alleged accident which occurred aboard the USS McClusky. NASSCO paid a total of $250,834.79, comprised of over $184,658.51in disability payments and $34,323.52 in medical costs, with $31,852.76 in other expenses. After a trial on same, the Judge determined that Defendant had breached its duty to safely maintain areas and equipment under its control and due to same, the Plaintiff was injured. The plaintiff recovered damages totaling $1,855,149.67, including the worker’s compensation lien noted above.
