Sharon Elizabeth McLaughlin brings with her over 25 years of Workers’ Compensation Defense experience and joins us after managing a successful solo practice for over 15 years.

Ms. McLaughlin graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice, where she was on the Dean’s list and was the Commencement Speaker at her graduation ceremony in 1987. Upon graduation from college, Ms. McLaughlin relocated to San Diego where she has lived continuously ever since.

In 1990, Ms. McLaughlin graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego. She took and passed the bar in December of that same year and was admitted to the State Bar of California.

Shortly after passing the bar, Ms. McLaughlin began her career as a workers’ compensation defense attorney with the San Diego law firm of Heggeness & Sweet, A PC. She was employed there through 1999 representing such clients as General Dynamics, Solar Turbines, AIG, Liberty Mutual and San Diego Gas & Electric in venues in Southern California.

Her experience at this firm included representing clients in Third Party Subrogation actions and handling the defense of both self-insured and insured clients in workers’ compensation matters, up through the filing of Petitions for Reconsideration and Writs at the Court of Appeal.

In 1999 Ms. McLaughlin left the firm to start her own practice in San Diego, defending employers and insurance companies at the WCAB. She also represented a Federal Contractor and was their in-house attorney on a part-time basis defending them in employment-related lawsuits in California and overseeing all of their workers’ compensation actions throughout the US.

After a brief stop at another law firm in 2015, Ms. McLaughlin is excited to be working with the Law Office of Rudy H. Lopez, and looks forward to continue to aggressively represent employers and insurers.
